Outfitters Wig

Est. 1969

About

We've been making people feel like themselves for nearly sixty years.

Outfitters Wig opened on the boulevard in 1969 under Ms. Angie, the original owner. Bebe McPherson learned the trade at her side and now runs the shop โ€” still hand-finishing wigs for stages, screens, and everyday realness.

We're a working theatre, salon, and gallery as much as a boutique. Drag queens, opera singers, cancer patients, RuPaul's Drag Race contestants, and your next-door-neighbor get the same room and the same care.

Every order is custom. Pick a style, tell us length and details, and we'll make it yours.

Margot Robbie ยท W Magazine Best Performances

Photographer Juergen Teller shot Margot Robbie in our shop window for W Magazine's 2024 Best Performances issue (January 3, 2024) โ€” cross-legged on the floor, ringed by Bebe's wig mannequins with the flame-red beehive over her left shoulder. The shoot landed during the Barbie press cycle. The issue's credits read 'Special thanks to Ms. Bebe at Outfitters Wig Shop in Hollywood,' and Margot came back later with the printed copy to say thanks in person.

A shop legend

Richard Simmons & Ms. Angie

Ms. Angie opened Outfitters Wig in 1969 and ran it for decades โ€” she is the foundation everything here is built on, and like a mom to Bebe. Richard Simmons, the famously beloved fitness icon and friend to Hollywood's queer community, was a regular; here they are together at the shop. Just outside, our storefront has anchored the same stretch of the Hollywood Walk of Fame for over fifty years โ€” a snapshot of the warmth and character that has always defined this place.

Best Wig Shop in LA

In August 2024, Los Angeles Magazine named Outfitters Wig the Best Wig Shop in their annual Best of LA issue. Half a century in, still the spot โ€” and proof that a tiny boulevard storefront can hold its own next to anyone.

Halloween on Hollywood Boulevard

A Los Angeles Independent feature traces Bebe's path from a singing-and-comedy tour through Europe to walking into Outfitters Wig in 2004 "with a bike and a pair of shoes," then taking over the shop from Ms. Angie. The Marie-Antoinette wig still sits in the front window โ€” same as it did in the '80s. "I want to give back to the Hollywood area, glamour and glitter," Bebe told the paper, promising to "continue the legacy of the house and add a few new fancies."
